
Bread and Butter Pudding
A comforting classic dessert perfect with custard, great for using up stale bread.
Equipment
- Pie dish
- Chopping board
- Chopping knife
- Mixing bowl
- Whisk
- Oven
Ingredients
- 6 slices bread
- 50 g butter low-fat
- sultanas
- brown sugar
- 1 egg
- milk low-fat
- pinch nutmeg
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 190°C / 375°F / Gas Mark 5.
- Cut the crusts off the bread (if preferred), butter it, and cut into fingers.
- Grease the dish. Then put a layer of bread fingers on the base of the dish. Sprinkle with sultanas and sugar. Continue the layers, finishing with a layer of bread.
- Beat egg and milk together and pour over the bread.
- Sprinkle nutmeg on top.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes.
Notes
A good way of using up stale bread. Stale cake or scone crumbs may also be used.
